Win a Personal Dog Portrait

Would you like your dog to be immortalised with a portrait, whilst simultaneously helping children to read?

At Crufts this March, the Kennel Club Art Gallery will be hosting a raffle to win a personal portrait of the lucky winner’s dog by established artist Christine Varley, with the money raised from the raffle going to the Bark and Read Foundation.

Helping children improve their reading skills by using dogs as non-judgemental reading companions, the Bark and Read Foundation is supported by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. The foundation works with two charities that take dogs into schools in the UK: Reading Education Assistance Dogs (READ) and Pets As Therapy, through their Read 2 Dogs programme. The latter is active in more than 40 schools across the country but the Kennel Club wants to see even more children benefiting.

The lucky winner will receive the unique prize of having talented watercolour artist Christine Varley paint a personal picture of their dog. Christine is celebrating her 25th year of painting portraits of dogs, horses, cats and other animals at Crufts this year.  Working from her Derbyshire home, where she paints in her garden studio, surrounded by her dogs and other pets. Christine works from photographs using watercolour paints, creating individual and beautifully detailed portraits capturing the character of the subject.

On display at the Kennel Club Art Gallery stand is a portrait by Christine of last year’s Reserve Best in Show winning Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Soletrader Peek a Boo. If you would like to see more work by Christine, she will be exhibiting at Crufts on Stand 47 in Hall 3, where she will also be giving demonstrations of her painting skills throughout the show, or visit her website.

Visitors to the Kennel Club Art Gallery stand during Crufts will be able to enter the raffle for a donation of just £1 and the ticket will be drawn on Sunday 11th March at 4pm.
